Usually most sports allow kids to start around 4 years old. Certain sports allow kids a little younger, like gymnastics starts at like 3 yrs old I think. What ever you are interested in getting the kids involved in just call some places and ask them. They will be able to tell you what there requirements are.
You can usually find a lot of sports programs for younger children. My children all did swimming at age 3 and dance at age 2 and baseball at 4 and so on. If you look at your local YMCA and such, you can usually find programs or look at any sports facilities or local pools. You can usually find them there.
My brother is six and he is on a basketball team that plays a few times a week.
What i did was went to my local pool they had different types of programs for little ones.
start with whatever he is interested in. Dont force a sport on him. At a young age it is important that they have fun. I started swimming very early. Check with your park District to see how early they offer them. Most often they categorize kids by age. Golf might be too slow and tedious for a young child. dance is good too keep him moving. Once agian go with his interests. Ask him what sports he enjoys watching. If he is old enough ask what sports he likes playing in gym class.
Depends on where you live. Check with your local parks and recreation. My son started soccer this year (he’s 3) and next he’s doing gymnastics (at daycare) and then baseball later this summer.
Most places start swimming lessons at age 3 (the go it alone classes at least - you can do mommy and me classes started at 6 months).
For more structured sports, like soccer, tee ball, etc. in my town you have to be 4. Karate you have to be 5.
Soccer is a great sport to start with, as the kids love it, its simple, lots of running around and kicking a ball, which most kids can do. Swimming is great as well, and a lifesaving skill to know, I started all my kids in swimming as soon as they turned three.
Good luck and have fun!
Most programs start at 3 or 4. My niece just started soccer at 3. My god-son started t-ball at 3 as well.
It all depends on what your area offers. Our city offers great summer programs, but there is not much going on in the winter months until you are at least 5 years old. Just dancing in your living room is a great exercise or going to the playgroup. He could also ride his bike on the track at the school with you if you were interested.
