I want to join my high school golf team and i’m about to take lessons, but i’m curious about a few things. Can you bend your left hand when doing the backswing and do you every move the wrists. What are some ways that i can tell my swing is correct?

Thanks, 10 points to whoever can answer this question well enough.

I don’t see how it’s possible to not bend it on a backswing, unless if I misunderstood this question(do you mean the left wrist?)
As long as those arms remain straight through contact with the ball, your wrists shouldn’t be an issue.
To figure out whether your swing is right, go to a practice range and hit some balls, also, make sure the swing is smooth, and does not cause any discomfort(back pain would mean the posture is not correct)
That’s all I really know, I’m in high school as well, and I’m still working on my own swing.

Here is the best way to tell u that your swing is ok…It’s called the 6 Inch Test! Stand about 6 inches from a wall….then position yourself as u would normally address a ball….Then “gently” take a back swing. If u hit the wall…your swing is stuffed up…lol. If u dont hit the wall… gr8! u r on your way to having a gr8 swing.
ps…this is best done without a ball…just pretend it’s there…lol. It’s one of the best things my coach taught me. If ever your swing is off….always go back to this test and you can correct it yourself.
Good luck with making the team.

When you are at the top of your backswing your left wrist will not be bent. It will be slightly cocked however. To demonstrate this, hold your left arm straight out from your body with your hand in a fist and palm facing the ground. Now turn your hand to the right towards your body while keeping your wrist straight. That is the position that your wrist and hand will be in at the top of your backswing. Your right hand will be in a position like you are holding a tray in your hand.

If you are about to take lessons, then the pro will be able to help you with this.

The best way to figure it out is to work on the set-up of your golf swing. The left wrist should never bend, it should just rotate around your body and be parallell to the club’s face throughout the golf swing. Actually your left arm should never bend either. Sometimes this will feel uncomfortable, but when you start to learn it is better to do it right then teach yourself bad habits.
Always rememeber that you need to start with a good foundation in the set-up for everything else to flow smoothly in the golf swing.

Your hands work together as one unit and acts as a hinge. A good drill is to grip the club and stick your arms out directly out and just hinge the wrists straight up. But when you do that in a swing, you are hinging your wrists up the plane of the golf club, if you know what that is. There is an angle formed by the ground and the golf club at address, and if after you hinge your wrists and the angle is the same, you hinged correctly. That is the plane in a nutshell.
To see if your swing is correct, look in a mirror and see if the club stays on plane. Also, the club head should pass through your hands in the mirror on the backswing and downswing.
its really easy to make the team. good luck
